FAQ:

i. What is the differences among demo, preview and professional editions?

A: This software is demo edition when it is not registered. Demo edition has the limitation of displaying message lines(about 400). Professional edition after register has no limitation. Preview edition is only for testing the new function which may has many defections and has the limitation of using time.

ii. How to install and uninstall WIP?

A: WIP need no installation. Just put the extracted executable file in a new directory. You can download Winzip if you need the unzip software. Please notice that the software will create temporary files when working. So it cannot run in read-only media such as CD-R or floppy disk. Due to the software write neither registry nor any other directory, just delete the file or the directory to uninstall it.

iii. Which OS and hardware platform can wip run on?

A: Almost all windows platform for WIP 2.x version or laster , OS from Win95 to Win2003.
　 for best performance under win2K/XP/2K3, We stongly suggest install WinPcap lib!

iv. How can I get WIP's users guide?

A: You can also press [F1] key to get internal help when running WIP.

v. How can I check the saved log files?

A: selecting 'save' or 'save selected item' in the pop-up menu will create files named as 010922101009.wip in current directory. The numbers indicate the last two numbers of year+ month+date+hour+minute+second. It is obviously that to search these files is very easy. Especially, in order to save the system resource, WIP will save information to a special temporary file named 'temp.wip' every 1000-5000 lines automatically and this file will save to the corresponding file when selecting the saved information. The temporary file will be cleared when next time WIP running.

vi. Why can not some long information line be displayed fully?

A: Actually, due to the system itself and some factors of the performance,some very long information line is not displayed fully but only the anterior part. If you do need to know the part that is not displayed, you can click the right button and select 'save' or 'save selected item' in the pop-up menu and then open the saved file with notepad.

vii. Why rate displayed on status bar is not close to actual line speed ?

A: Since version 2.00 , traffic speed is displayed on status bar when analyzing. It shows actual traffic of ethernet network ,but it does not base on line speed . For many many reasons , the traffic speed shown is higher than actual line speed . Obviously, it's not only include data traffic , but also packet header , traffic contral ,etc . The compress protocols such as V.42 also case instant traffic speed increased. The reason of most importance is that the displayed speed shows the instant speed , so, the cache of switch hubs ,modems, and other network devices boost the instant speed to exceed actual line speed consumedly.

Viii. Why WIP is not powerful under Win2K/XP as it run under WIN95/98/ME (before wip 3.00 version)?

A: Under Win95/98/ME, WIP run as a virtual device in system kernel, so, it 's fast and efficient 。Under Win2K/XP , as well known, WIP can not access network card hardware directly, so, till now, WIP can only run as a win32 application for no extra kernel driver installed. We should point out, WIP under Win2k/XP maybe lost packets with no reason and no prompt.

With free driver winpcap installed, WIP 3.x can work powerfully under all windows OS Win95/98/Me/Nt/2k/xp/2k3.
